July 19 Wellington Concert Sponsored By Young Professionals

The Young Professionals of Wellington are sponsoring a special edition of Wellington’s Tribute Concert & Food Trucks series this Saturday evening at the Wellington Amphitheater (12100 W. Forest Hill Blvd.).

The event will feature food trucks on site from 5 to 10:30 p.m., along with music from Neil Diamond tribute artist Neil Zirconia at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Lazy Bones ’80s Rock Tribute Band at 8:30 p.m.

As title sponsor, the Young Professionals of Wellington hope to promote community involvement and awareness within the 25-year-old to 45-year-old demographic.

“This will be the first time that we’ve had an open forum at the village. This is one where we don’t have to worry about the population being capped,” said Michael Drahos, founder and immediate past chairman of the group. “We’ve gone in and sent out over 1,000 invitations on Facebook, and the response has been pretty good. So, we’re hoping for a pretty big crowd.”

Young Professionals of Wellington ’80s Night Event Chair Jay Henley said the desire for a summer activity where everyone in Wellington could participate was the driving force in promoting the 1980s-themed concert.

At the event, the group plans to present a survey to the community. Members will be manning a booth and walking through the crowds with the survey.

“The survey we’re planning on giving to people while they’re at the event is to find out more about their opinions on certain matters in Wellington, especially the future of the K-Park site and local businesses in general — how they view them, where they frequent, what they do like, what they don’t like,” Henley said.

Henley said the Young Professionals of Wellington seeks to “just get an idea of our age group and their thoughts on Wellington and what we can improve and what things are going well already.”

As the next progression in the music series that began with the 1950s and has progressed to the 1980s, the July 19 event is expected to be even larger than the rest, which have had an average attendance of between 1,500 and 2,000, said Wellington Cultural Programs & Facilities Manager Joe Piconcelli.

“It’s an interesting concept of music when you go through it by decades,” he said.

Piconcelli pointed out that attendees should bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

The upcoming fall concert schedule includes tributes to Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, the Beach Boys and the Eagles, Piconcelli noted.

Membership in the Young Professionals of Wellington is typically through a referral process, where each potential candidate is vetted and interviewed. By Monday, the 10-question survey will be available on the group’s web site and Facebook page. To learn more about the group, or to take the survey, visit www.ypwellington.com.

  1. The Young Professionals of Wellington Group aka Wellington Chamber of Commerce – Political Action Group led by Drahos.
Residents of Wellington beware. This group needs to “vet” and “screen” its potential members just like the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The Young Professionals and The Chamber worked against our New, World Class Tennis Facility.
Enjoy the Event and Evening just remember Caveat Emptor!
