Alex Jinesta, a 25-year-old black belt and member of Team USA from West Palm Beach, recently won the gold medal in the Men’s 18-34 – 60 kg Elite Kumite division at the United States National Karate Federation National Championships in Reno, Nev.

This most recent win follows his gold medal win at the Amateur Athletic Union National Championship in the lightweight kumite division.

He has been training in karate for 20 years and has been the senior instructor at Palm Beach Karate School since he turned 16. Last year, as a member of Team USA, he represented the USA in the Pan-American Karate Championships.

Jinesta is currently training to compete in the World Karate Federation Series in Santiago, Chile, which would earn him points toward his Olympic qualification with the hopes of taking part in karate’s debut Olympics in Tokyo 2020.
