Audrey Coldwell Earns Eagle Scout Rank And Special Award

Audrey Coldwell of Scout Troop 4013 recently reached the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, and she also received the Brian Morgan Spirit of Scouting Youth Award.

Coldwell passed her Eagle Board of Review on Tuesday, Feb. 17. For her Eagle project, she installed a bird strike deterrent system on windows at Jonathan Dickinson State Park’s Kimbell Education and Visitor Center, with the support of her troop and staff from Audubon Everglades. She also designed and provided educational brochures to educate the public about the important issue of bird strike prevention.

Coldwell is heavily involved with the Gulf Stream Council and has twice staffed its National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course, held annually at Tanah Ketah Scout Camp in Hobe Sound. She holds the Brotherhood rank in the Order of the Arrow scouting honor society and serves as a representative for her troop and as youth administrative lead for the upcoming section conference. Coldwell also staffs Tanah Ketah summer camp, helping scouts earn a variety of merit badges. In Troop 4013, she has served as scribe, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader, and is currently a junior assistant scoutmaster. This summer, Coldwell will serve on staff at the National Jamboree, a huge scouting event held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.

All these activities have earned Coldwell the special distinction of being named the recipient of this year’s Brian Morgan Spirit of Scouting Youth Award, which was presented at the annual Council Recognition Banquet on March 4. The award recognizes scouts who are passionate, dedicated and responsible, reflecting the qualities that Brian Morgan respected most in scouting.

“She consistently ensures that others feel included, supported and excited to participate — perfectly reflecting Brian Morgan’s belief that scouting should always put youth first and make room for fun. For these reasons, and many more, we are honored to present the Brian Morgan Spirit of Scouting Youth Award to Audrey Coldwell,” officials said of Coldwell at the recognition banquet.

Outside of scouting, Coldwell is a top-ranked International Baccalaureate student in her junior year at Royal Palm Beach High School. She intends to major in biochemistry or another STEM field in college and complete premedical coursework to pursue a career as a physician in emergency medicine or pediatrics.

“Before I considered it as a career path, service has always been at the center of my life. Through scouting, leadership roles and conservation work, I have learned that my strongest sense of purpose comes from being dependable in moments when others need support, guidance or reassurance,” Coldwell said in her Eagle Scout personal statement. “These experiences have shaped my ambition to pursue a career in medicine.”
