Wellington Earns Distinguished Budget Award

Wellington has once again been recognized for its excellence in financial management, earning the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for the 25th year for the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget.

The award represents a significant achievement by the Village of Wellington. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, Wellington had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, underscoring Wellington’s dedication to responsible financial stewardship. This achievement would not be possible without the hard work and expertise of Wellington’s Budget Team of Christine Wadleigh, Rubi Cabret and Jeff Gomez. Their work helps ensure that the village remains fiscally strong and well-prepared for the future.
