Minto Communities USA recently announced the sale of a 24-acre parcel in Westlake to Walmart, which is planning to build a 188,779-square-foot superstore.
Approved by the Westlake City Council in April, the location will have a grocery store, pharmacy, garden center, automotive center and vision center. There will be a separate area for a convenience store and gas station. The transaction closed on July 30. Terms were not disclosed.
The new Walmart store will be located in Town Center West, just west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, close to 60th Street North at the north end of Westlake.
The Walmart store will be adjacent to a future Lowe’s Home Improvement store, which will also serve as a regional headquarters. Minto sold land to Lowe’s in January of this year.
“Walmart gives Westlake homeowners another place to shop for everyday essentials, right in their own backyard,” said John Carter, senior vice president of Minto Communities USA. “Bringing in major brands like Walmart and Lowe’s is a clear vote of confidence in our community’s growth and long-term value.”
In addition to the two big-box stores, Minto retains a large outparcel opportunity in Town Center West that will be marketed for sale in the near future. Minto has now sold approximately half of the 2.2 million square feet approved for commercial development in Westlake.
“As Westlake reaches critical mass, the market is taking notice,” Carter said. “We want to be selective as to what types of businesses come into the city, focusing on those that add real value for our residents.”
Minto, the master developer and primary builder in Westlake, has capacity for 6,000 homes. The community offers a mix of single-family homes, estate homes and townhomes, with prices starting in the $300s.
All Westlake homeowners enjoy access to the community’s $23 million Westlake Adventure Park, which includes a resort-style lagoon pool with a tower slide, splash pad, adult lap pool, event lawn, concert pavilion, food truck court, BMX pump park, playground, dog park, full-length lighted basketball courts and a community gathering space known as the Lodge.
The latest Westlake amenity, a 3,900-square-foot fieldhouse with an event space, coffee bar, toddler play area and multiuse sports fields, is coming soon.
