Wellington Board Allows Sign To Stay, After It Went Up Without Proper Approval

Wellington’s Architectural Review Board last month approved a request allowing a wall sign for the Florida Center for Aesthetic Dentistry that had been installed before receiving village approval.

The board considered the matter at a meeting on Wednesday, July 29. The dental practice is located in the Pointe at Wellington Green, off Forest Hill Blvd. It was recently renamed from the Sadati Center for Aesthetic Dentistry to the Florida Center for Aesthetic Dentistry.

The tenant replaced the old sign with similar-sized signage. However, to do so, approval for a sign deviation once again needed to go through Wellington’s Architectural Review Board.

The sign was already installed before the meeting, but village staff added that it does not cause any issues.

“[The sign] is proportionate to the building and allows for clear visibility,” Senior Planner Kelly Ferraiolo said.

Board Member John Greene criticized the applicant’s team for installing the sign without approval and not attending a previous meeting. He added that not getting approval before installing something could negatively impact the board’s decision.

“I just wanted to send a message to everybody that if you do these things, you don’t do it the right way, you have an opportunity to come and plead your case, and you don’t show up, you’re not going to get my approval,” he said.

The board unanimously approved the application, allowing the existing sign to remain.
