Trent Frazier’s professional basketball career is alive, well and thriving — overseas in Europe.
Since graduating from Wellington High School in 2017, Frazier’s basketball odyssey has taken him from Wellington to the University of Illinois, where he played in the Big Ten Conference, to FMP SoccerBet in Serbia, and then onto Russia to play for Zenit Saint Petersburg in the VTB United League.
He’s now headed to another team in a warmer climate. Last month, Frazier signed a new contract with Virtus Bologna in Italy, which plays in both the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and in the EuroLeague.
Frazier is transitioning to the Italian team from his former team in Russia. He is looking forward to the warmer climate in Italy. “In Russia, it was very, very, very cold,” Frazier said. “It was freezing.”
Prior to joining the Italian team, Frazer played as Zenit’s starting point guard. He signed with the Saint Petersburg team on Feb. 2, 2023. Frazier’s career in Russia was filled with awards, recognition and accolades.
As a member of the team for the balance of the 2023 season, he became the silver medalist of the Russian Cup and was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament final four.
In 2023, Frazier led Zenit to the VTB League Super Cup title. He was a two-time Russian Cup Finals MVP in 2023 and 2024. And in 2024, he helped Zenit capture the Russian Cup.
In June 2024, Frazier signed a new contract with Zenit. During the 2024-25 season, he became the bronze medalist of the VTB United League Super Cup. In February 2025, Frazier was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the VTB United League.
During the recently completed 2025-26 regular season, Frazier averaged 13.8 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per contest, an impressive 5.8 assists per outing and 1.5 steals a game. Frazier led his team in assists on 18 occasions, and he was his team’s leading scorer in nine games.
In Europe, his career-high for points scored in a game was 45 points on Jan. 3, 2023, while playing for FMB SoccerBet in a 113-102 road win against Mornar-Barsko Zlato in an Adriatic – Liga ABA game.
Back in high school, Frazier led Wellington, coached by head coach Matt Colin, to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 8A state championship in the 2014-15 season, when he was a sophomore.
At the University of Illinois, he was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team following the 2017-18 season; he was a two-time Big Ten All-Defensive Team selection in 2020-21 and 2021-22; and he was a member of the Second-Team All-Big Ten Team in 2022.
