Wellington’s Hana Lohmann Now At FSU And Still Playing Soccer

Longtime Wellington resident Hana Lohmann is a senior in college and still playing competitive soccer. She is enjoying every minute of her time on the pitch and in the collegiate classroom.

Lohmann, a 2023 graduate of Glades Day School, was a goal-scoring phenom during her seven-year stint as a player for the school’s girls varsity soccer team. She started with the varsity squad as a sixth grader, usually playing in the midfield. In seven years of varsity play, she scored 198 goals and had 113 assists.

In her senior year, Lohmann was Florida’s top goal-scoring high school soccer player with 65 goals and 29 assists. Right now, she is a senior at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she is pursuing a degree in media communications. She plans to pursue a master’s degree after graduating next May. To keep herself physically fit and connected to soccer, the 21-year-old Lohmann is a member of FSU’s women’s club soccer team.

Prior to arriving in Tallahassee, Lohmann spent her first two collegiate years in Jacksonville as a student-athlete at Trinity Baptist College (now Trinity College of Jacksonville), where she wore her favorite number from high school (15) and was an attacking midfielder. After two years at Trinity, she transferred to FSU.

Upon arrival in Tallahassee in August 2025, she tried out for the women’s club soccer team. Odd as it may seem, Lohmann was not selected for the team after tryouts. To her credit, she tried out for the team again this past spring and made the squad. At the conclusion of the spring season, the FSU women’s club soccer team — with Lohmann patrolling the midfield — won the Collegiate Club Soccer Championship.

“At the national tournament, we defeated Fordham University from New York, West Chester University from Pennsylvania, High Point University from North Carolina and the University of Georgia in the semifinal,” Lohmann recalled. “In the final, we beat Temple University from Philadelphia, 3-1.”

This fall, she is trying out for the team again and is expected to make the squad, since she was on the team last spring.

“For every season, every player must try out for the team, but if you have been part of the team in the past, you usually get selected again,” Lohmann said.

For Lohmann, playing competitive club soccer at a major university has been an eye-opening experience.

“Instead of stepping up and leading the way on previous teams, I get to play soccer where I trust and rely on my teammates, all of whom are experienced players,” Lohmann explained.

The women’s club soccer team at FSU is a student-run organization, which means the players must coordinate logistics for practices and travel to away games as a group.

“For away games, we carpool and drive ourselves,” Lohmann said. “We practice twice a week. Our practices and home games are held off campus at the FSU Rec SportsPlex. We have 30 girls on the team.”

The team has three experienced coaches — John McVaney, David Nunez and Jordan Godfrey — who provide guidance and structure to the squad. All three coaches are volunteers.

As for Lohmann’s long-term goals, she wants to continue her affiliation with competitive team sports.

“I’d like to work in marketing for a sports team,” said Lohmann, who spent this past May studying abroad at FSU’s campus in London, England.

If that marketing job with a team is a women’s pro soccer club, don’t rule out Lohmann playing for the team, as well.

The FSU women’s club soccer team opens its fall season with a match against the University of North Florida on Saturday, Sept. 12. Look for Lohmann, now wearing number 17, to be patrolling the midfield, just as she has always done and will continue to do.
