In September, the Animal Rehab Institute, in conjunction with South Florida farrier Andre Tufano, hosted the legendary Yogi Sharp for a two-day seminar at the institute in Loxahatchee Groves.
Sharp, a British farrier, researcher, educator and equine hoof-care specialist, is best known internationally as “The Equine Documentalist.” Sharp, who has a PhD in farrier science, is dedicated to sharing his scientific insights with owners, farriers and veterinarians to shed light on how the hoof impacts the entire body. His holistic approach has helped make radical improvements in the lives of countless horses around the globe.
South Florida-based farrier Andre Tufano of Advanced Equine Hoof Care had been following Sharp’s work and teachings and teamed up with Arlene White, owner and founder of the Animal Rehab Institute, to put together the seminar with Sharp.
“I really like the holistic aspects of Yogi’s approach and the research and attention to detail he puts into his work,” Tufano said. “I wanted to work with him first-hand and help share his knowledge with our community.”
The seminar included two half-day classroom sessions and two half-day lab sessions troubleshooting horses and applying Sharp’s techniques to foster learning in a real world setting beyond the classroom.
The Animal Rehab institute, located in Loxahatchee Groves, offers certification programs in equine rehabilitation for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapist assistants, farriers and more. They also offer certification in equine sports massage therapy.
The facility brings internationally acclaimed instructors in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation with an emphasis on hands-on teaching. Yogi Sharp was extremely well received, and plans are underway for additional seminars in 2027.
