As Major League Baseball winds down its season, another diamond-like activity will soon be starting its 2026-27 season in Wellington. The Palm Beach County Senior Stickball League is getting ready for another year of competition.

The new season is scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 30 and will conclude next April. The league has been in existence for more than 20 years.

This coming season, all the games will be played on the existing stickball “diamond” at Village Park (11700 Pierson Road, Wellington). Teams in the league will be competing for the Rick MacInnis Memorial Trophy. Some of the prior league championship teams have been Legends (2021), Coco Nutz (2022), Legends (2023), Outkasts (2024) and Coco Nutz (2025).

According to spokesman Barry Davis, the league is actively looking for new participants to register and play. The registration fee is $100 per person. The expectation is that there will be six teams in the league, with at least 10 players on each team. The team names this year will be Barry’s Bombers, the Hurricanes, Del Boca Vista, Brooklyn OGs, Silver Stars and Coco Nutz. Games will be played on Fridays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

“We are currently inviting players — at least 40 years of age, of all skill levels — to come out, enjoy the game, stay active and become part of our league,” Davis said. “Our oldest player is 94-year-old Joe DeVirgilio.”

While the score will be kept for each game, the purpose behind the league is not to simply determine the best stickball players.

“The league is about more than just stickball,” Davis said. “We promote fun, fitness, friendship, good sportsmanship and an active lifestyle for senior players. Our league is open to the public, and we welcome anyone who wants to play. We truly believe that everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy the game of stickball.”

League sponsors include the Palm Diner, Lucille’s Bad to the Bone BBQ, Cucina Moderna, Kruisland Insurance Agency, Wellington Insurance, Robert James Insurance and USA Sports Medicine.
