Wellington Begins Water Meter Replacement Program

The Village of Wellington recently announced the launch of its Water Meter Replacement Program, a long-term initiative designed to modernize the community’s water utility infrastructure and enhance customer service through advanced metering technology.

This past summer, Wellington started replacing existing residential water meters with new wireless smart meters that automatically transmit water usage readings directly to the utility office. The village-wide program is expected to continue over the next 12 to 18 months and will provide residents with more efficient and reliable utility services.

The new metering technology will improve billing accuracy, support enhanced customer service notifications and eliminate the need for weekly drive-by meter readings. By reducing vehicle usage associated with manual meter collection, the program also supports Wellington’s ongoing sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts.

Residents are not required to be home during meter replacements. Prior to installation, customers will receive notification by mail and a pre-installation door hanger.

Technicians from Envocore, the village’s authorized contractor, will be clearly identifiable through uniforms, marked vehicles and valid photo identification.

During installation, customers may experience a brief water service interruption lasting approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Following restoration of service, residents are encouraged to run a bathtub faucet or outdoor spigot for two to three minutes to remove any air from the water lines.

To help ensure efficient access to meter boxes, residents are asked to remove any vegetation, plants or landscaping that may obstruct the work area before scheduled installation in their neighborhood.

Program highlights include:

  • Advanced wireless meter technology with automated readings.
  • No direct charge to customers for meter replacement.
  • Improved utility operations and customer service capabilities.
  • Reduced carbon emissions through elimination of drive-by meter reading.
  • Village-wide deployment over an estimated 12- to 18-month period.

Residents seeking additional information about the Water Meter Replacement Program can visit the village’s Utilities Department page at www.wellingtonfl.gov/utilities or review the program’s Frequently Asked Questions section.

The Wellington Utilities Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide a reliable supply of superior quality drinking water and dependable and environmentally safe wastewater service to approximately 56,000 residents in its service area.
