Tulane University awarded degrees to approximately 2,700 graduates on May 19 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. Among those to receive a degree was Wellington resident Christine Hwa, who graduated with a juris doctor degree.
The ceremony’s featured keynote speaker was Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson. Honorary degree recipients included civil rights icon Ruby Bridges and mathematician Peter D. Lax.
Hwa and her fellow class members were honored at the ceremony, which included all the pomp and circumstance of a traditional commencement but with a New Orleans twist, including bagpipes, herald trumpets and a second-line jazz procession.
