Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization will kick off the 18th annual Buddy Walk with “Buddy Walk… Uncorked,” a wine tasting scheduled to take place Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wine Cellar at Renaissance Commons (1500 Gateway Blvd., Boynton Beach). Guests will enjoy a variety of wines and food.
“This year our Buddy Walk committee was looking for a fun way to bring people in our organization and in the community together to kick off the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization’s largest fundraiser,” said DeeAnne Feulner, chair of Buddy Walk… Uncorked. “With the opening of our new resource center, we are in a period of exciting new growth and programming and wanted to get our supporters galvanized for raising funds. What better way to do that than a party with wine and food?”
The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization serves Palm Beach County and helps children and adults with Down syndrome and their families.
The Buddy Walk, a family fun morning of walking followed by children’s activities and a silent auction and raffle, provides most of the funds for the group’s operations. This year’s walk is set for the morning of Sunday, Oct. 21 at John Prince Park’s center pavilion in Lake Worth.
The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization is an educational resource, support and advocacy organization, which has been empowering individuals with Down syndrome and their families since 1980. The organization supports the inclusion of persons who have Down syndrome in all areas of life as contributing and valued members of society. It provides current and positive information about Down syndrome to new parents, sponsors social opportunities for individuals of all ages with Down syndrome, provides parent training and educational advocacy, and strives to ensure that individuals with Down syndrome can grow up to live, learn, work and play in their community. In 2010, the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization received the National Down Syndrome Congress prestigious National Parent Group Award.
Tickets cost $20 per person with reservations and $25 at the door (space permitting). All ticket proceeds and 30 percent of any wine purchased at the tasting will benefit the new Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization Resource Center.
