County Artists Are Sought For Airport Exhibit

Palm Beach County’s Art in Public Places program invites visual artists who reside in Palm Beach County to submit artwork to be considered for inclusion in a four-month exhibition at the Palm Beach International Airport. The exhibition area is on Level 2, across from Sam Snead’s restaurant and bar, the visitor’s lounge and mini putting green. Exhibition dates are Oct. 24 through Feb. 28, 2013.

Artists can enter one original, two- or three-dimensional piece of artwork. All media welcome. Artists may obtain a copy of the Call to Artists through one of the following: by visiting www.pbcgov.com/fdo/art/artists, by sending an e-mail request to esinger@pbcgov.org or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Palm Beach County Art in Public Places, 2633 Vista Parkway, West Palm Beach, FL 33411.

Voted third best airport in the U.S. and sixth best in the world by Condé Nast, Palm Beach International Airport has become a premier venue showcasing quality original artworks by Palm Beach County’s finest emerging and professional artists. As a major gateway to South Florida, Palm Beach International Airport receives an average of 500,000 travelers per month.

Of local, national and international origin, travelers view and frequently purchase works featured in “Art at the Airport” exhibitions. In fact, in all but two of the 24 shows hosted during the past eight years, artwork sales have occurred. Artists keep 100 percent of income from sales. Additionally, artists receive commissions for new works from travelers who’ve seen “Art at the Airport” shows.

The deadline for entry is Sept. 26, and there is a $20 application fee.
