Bassmasters Hold Fishing Tourney On Lake Okeechobee

Royal Palm Bassmasters held its monthly fishing tournament Sunday, Aug. 12 out of the Harney Pond boat ramp on Lake Okeechobee.

First place was awarded to the team of Larry Payne (boater), with five fish weighing 15 lbs., 10 oz., and partner Jim Ryba (co-angler), with one fish weighing 1 lb., 4 oz., for a team weight of 16 lbs., 14 oz.

Second place was awarded to the team of Walt Zajkowski (boater), with five fish weighing 6 lbs., 12 oz., and partner Bill Latham (co-angler), with five fish weighing 9 lbs., 14 oz., for a team weight of 16 lbs., 10 oz.

Third place was awarded to the team of Phil Northrop (boater), with five fish weighing 7 lbs., 8 oz., and partner Robbie Thompson (co-angler), with five fish weighing 8 lbs., for a total team weight of 15 lbs., 8 oz.

The Big Fish of the tournament was caught by Payne: a bass weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz.

Royal Palm Bassmasters meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Royal Palm Beach Recreation Center (100 Sweet Bay Lane). The club is now accepting applications for new boaters and non-boater members. Come and check out the fun you’ve been missing.
