Thirteen-year-old Clay Gibbs of Wellington was runner-up at the South Florida PGA Junior Tour Championship golf event. The 36-hole tour championship was held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2 at Santa Lucia River Club in Port St. Lucie.
Competing in the Boys Age 12-13 Division, Gibbs recorded rounds of 76 and 79, for a 155 total. He recorded an impressive seven birdies during the two-day competition. The event was won by Weston’s Alberto Martinez, who shot 73, 70, for a two-day total of 143.
“This was a great event for Clay, who beat a number of players in the very impressive field. I am very pleased with the progress Clay and I have made with the things we have been working on,” said PGA Master Professional Kevin Perkins, who runs the Kevin Perkins Golf Academy at the Binks Forest Golf Club in Wellington.
