The Palm Beach County Health Department will offer flu shots Friday, Feb. 1 from noon to 4 p.m. at the South Florida Fair. There is no charge for the vaccine with fair admission.
“Every year people get the flu, causing them to miss work or school,” Health Department Director Dr. Alina Alonso said. “And the flu can lead to more severe complications that can result in hospitalization or even death. A flu shot is an excellent preventive measure.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 30,000 people die in the United State every year from complications associated with the flu. The CDC recommends the following preventive measures: completely cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing to prevent germs from going air borne, wash your hands with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer when not available, properly dispose of used tissues, and stay home if you are sick.
Flu shots are available throughout the county at various health-related facilities. To find a flu shot location, call 211.
