Plaza Theatre Announces Additions To Winter Lineup

As a follow-up to its successful run of cabaret shows this past fall, the Plaza Theatre in Manalapan is bringing back some of its fan favorites for another run this winter.

Kicking off with A Tribute to Judy Garland, the theater will produce a fun-filled and moving tribute to one of the greatest singers of all time. Melissa Jacobson, one of South Florida’s top cabaret performers, will command the stage in this performance that runs Tuesday, Jan. 29 and Monday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. each night. The show features hits such as “The Trolley Song,” “Get Happy,” “You Made Me Love You” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as well as many more.

Next up is The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Friends, which features music from Phantom of the Opera, Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Song & Dance and more. Jody Langel, who starred in several Andrew Lloyd Webber national tours and recently was awarded a Silver Palm Award for theater excellence, will help audiences fall in love all over again with these classics. Performances are Monday, Feb. 11 and Monday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Rounding out the cabaret performances is If They Could See Me Now: A Broad’s Way With Broadway! Featuring Missy McArdle, a seven-time Carbonell Award nominee and favorite on the South Florida theater scene, this performance will include a hit parade of Broadway belt and comic songs, including “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Send in the Clowns,” “If They Could See Me Now,” “Anything Goes,” “When You’re Good to Mama,” “And the World Goes Round” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Performances are scheduled for Monday, March 4 and Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The Plaza Theatre, a not-for-profit 250-seat theater, is home to a variety of light-hearted shows, with an occasional gripping drama, that aim to please every show-goer. The theater was opened in early 2012 by Alan Jacobson, a Palm Beach Gardens resident who ran the Florida Jewish Theatre for five seasons in the 1990s and then became an independent producer of cabaret shows, musical revues and comedies such as If You Ever Leave Me… I’m Going With You and Down the Garden Path, which played at the Royal Poinciana Playhouse.

The Plaza Theatre is located at 262 S. Ocean Blvd in Manalapan. Tickets cost $30 for each show and $75 for all three shows.
