Crestwood Middle School has adopted a sister school in Accra, Ghana.
St. Jude is a K-9 school that was visited by one of Crestwood’s reading teachers, Marque Drummond, at the beginning of the school year. While teaching a mini lesson at the school, he was moved by the students’ attitude of wanting to learn without even having basic classroom supplies. Drummond decided that when he returned to Florida, he would try to do something to help. He shared his experience with the teachers and students at Crestwood, and has spearheaded a school drive to contribute to St. Jude.
Students have donated an enormous number of supplies. National Honor School students have sorted and packed a 70-pound box, and another 70-pound box is being assembled.
The National Junior Honor Society donated $100 to help with mailing expenses. Crestwood’s School Officer Jeff Farrell secured an additional donation from the Police Benevolent Association to help with expenses. The gathering will continue throughout the year.
