Owners Mike Ecker and Donna Talbot started Insurance & Financial Services Group eight years ago as a division of Ad’Mark Consultants Inc. The office is located in Wellington’s Chancellor building.
Originally from New York, Ecker has a background as a broker, having worked for notable companies such as David Lerner Associates and Shearson Lehman Brothers.
Ecker has more than 30 years of experience dealing with finance, handling and educating clients on the diverse investment options for their money.
Talbot, who has been in the insurance industry since 1989, specializes in long-term care. She has experience teaching long-term care as a certified instructor at Palm Beach State College.
At Insurance & Financial Services Group, Talbot is in charge of insurance and fixed investments such as life insurance, health insurance, long-term care and fixed annuities. “Donna is probably the most knowledgeable person doing long-term care around,” Ecker said. “She’s been doing it a long time and is well qualified.”
Talbot does free reviews for people who have existing policies. “She reviews them to see if there are any changes because people think they’re covered, but they’re not, or the coverage is inadequate,” Ecker said.
This is also prevalent with life insurance policies. “There are many things that have changed in life insurance policies over the last few years,” Talbot said. “We try to keep people up-to-date with their policy as well as what’s new out there, like living benefits.”
As an independent agent, Insurance & Financial Services Group is able to offer many types of health and life insurance policies, savings plans and investment options. This gives clients a broader spectrum to work with. “We have access to over 30 companies,” Talbot said. “We are one of the few independent insurance and financial companies in this area with the freedom to use many different providers and companies.”
It’s all about working only for the benefit of the client, Ecker noted. “We don’t have allegiance to any company,” he said. “We are only working on behalf of our clients’ interest.”
Some of the agency’s financial and insurance services include stocks, corporate and tax-free bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, annuities and life insurance policies. The agency also offers health insurance plans for individuals, families, small groups and businesses.
Ecker recommended that people not get their life insurance policies over the Internet. “That’s the easy way but the wrong way to buy life insurance,” he said. “By going through us, we are able to pre-screen our clients before they apply, because once they apply online, that information becomes public record. And if they’re denied, that information is there for the rest of their lives.”
