The Second Annual Jim Sackett Celebrity Invitational Softball Tournament raised more than $7,000 for Friends of Abused Children Inc. Plans are underway to host the third annual event in 2014.
The tournament took place on Saturday, March 2 at Okeeheelee Park with 22 teams competing.
The all-day fundraiser supported Friends of Abused Children, 28-year-old nonprofit organization in Palm Beach County assisting children in foster, relative, non-relative and shelter care. The group offers tutoring and scholarships, sends children to summer camp and safety patrol trips, funds enrichment programs such as after-school athletics and music programs, provides clothing and school uniforms, and other programs and services.
Sackett, a Wellington resident and retired TV news anchor, has been a member of the group’s board of directors since 2007.
Sponsors of the event included Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, WPTV NewsChannel 5, BetterWaste Management Corp., Republic Services, Walgreens Wellington, Dunkin’ Donuts West Palm Beach, Costco Palm Beach Gardens, Team I Sports (Allan Tanner), Bill Serey and Jim Munsey.
