WHS Basketball Standout To Play At California School

Wellington High School standout basketball player Stephon Gordon signed with West Hills Community College in Coalinga, Calif. on June 10. The 6-foot, 3-inch wing was selected first team all-conference, second team all-area and was the second leading scorer on the team averaging 14 points per game, and the leading rebounder with 7.5 per game.

“Stephon is an exceptional athlete who was the leader of the Wolverine basketball team,” Coach Matthew Colin said. “He is going to have the opportunity develop, get stronger and has the potential to come out of junior college two years down the road as a Division 1 player, much like Jon Octeus did. I think this young man is going to turn a lot of heads as he continues to develop.”

West Hills plays in the Central Valley Conference, one of the top conferences in California. The Falcons have qualified for the playoffs nine out of the last 12 years and reached the state quarterfinals in 2007.
