KWP Productions will hold auditions next month for young actors for the musical Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Directors Kim Rommel-Enright and Helen Buttery will be casting actors, singers and dancers ages 8 through college for this non-Equity production in September.
Meanwhile, a special audition workshop is coming up Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Community Hall at the Borland Center for Performing Arts (4885 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens). The cost is $20 per student.
This workshop is designed as a tool to improve the actor’s audition performance. The workshop does not guarantee a role in the show, but helps the actors know what is required of them at the audition and introduces them to what casting agents and directors look for through the audition process. This workshop is not a requirement for those planning to audition. Youngsters will learn tools to help prepare for auditions in general as well as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Buttery and Rommel-Enright will work with the participants on the following: techniques for having a top-notch audition, introduction to choreography for the dance section of the audition, readings from script (feedback on readings) and review of songs for lead characters (to be used in the audition/callback process). Feedback will be given to all participants to ensure they are prepared to perform their best at auditions. Register online at www.kwpproductions.com. E-mail questions to auditions@kwpproductions.com.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. show auditions will be Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also at the Borland Center. Those trying out may attend either Friday or Saturday and are not required to attend both. Candidates should be prepared to stay for the entire three-hour time slot either day.
Rehearsals start Sept. 13 and the show will run Dec. 27 through Jan. 5 at the Borland Center.
Those auditioning should bring a headshot and resume, and be prepared to sing a 2 to 3 minute song of their choice and bring CD accompaniment. There will also be a cold reading from a script.
KWP will be casting for the following roles: narrators, Prince, Beast, Old Woman/Enchantress, Belle, Gaston, Lefou, Silly Girls (three), Maurice, Cogsworth, Lumiere, Babette, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Madame de la Grande Bouche, servants, villagers and Monsieur D’Arque.
Callbacks will be announced if needed and will be the week following the auditions. For additional information, e-mail auditions@kwpproductions.com. There is never a fee to audition or to participate in a KWP production.
