Norton Teacher Appreciation Night Sept. 26

Teacher Appreciation Night is being sponsored by the Norton Museum of Art in conjunction with its Art After Dark series. The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. Active teachers will get free admission to the museum with teacher identification and have access to tours, exhibit information and refreshments.

The evening’s itinerary includes a welcome and conversations with museum curators, a reception, information about exhibits and tours scheduled for the year, performances by the Samantha Russell Band (known for country, rock and pop selections), a do-it-yourself arts area, the Taz Bot Renegades and the Psychedelic Mist acoustic band.

William Randolph Hearst Curator of Education Glenn Tomlinson will lead a special tour for teachers titled “Artists as Mentors.”

Brigid Howard, this year’s president of the Palm Beach County Art Teachers Association said that enjoying the teacher appreciation event at the Norton is a great opportunity for all teachers.

“It’s such a beautiful museum bursting with fabulous art, which is great for teachers of all disciplines because art is a universal language that inspires, educates and opens our eyes to the world around us. This is a chance for teachers to learn while we have a great time,” she said.

Teachers and students have benefited from multiple collaborations with the West Palm Beach museum over the years.
