Through the sponsorship of the Holocaust Learning and Education Fund Inc., K-12 Holocaust Studies is hosting Jan Malecha from Monday, Jan. 6 through Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Malecha is an historian and highly experienced guide from the Buchenwald Concentration Camp Memorial in Weimar, Germany. Malecha is traveling to the U.S. as part of an educational interchange to speak in classrooms at the district’s high schools.
The Holocaust Learning and Education Fund is an educational charitable organization founded by Mr. and Mrs. Craig Weiner of South Florida.
This organization is dedicated to the expansion and enhancement of Holocaust education programs with the goal of teaching young people greater tolerance and respect for others.
The organization raises funds strictly for the purpose of providing Holocaust education. Malecha will be spending five months in Florida speaking in schools in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Broward and Orange counties.
While in Palm Beach County, Malecha met with teachers on Monday at an in-service program at the Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center, at which time he discussed the presentations he will be conducting with students.
Some of the high schools Malecha will visit include Suncoast, Olympic Heights, Seminole Ridge, Wellington, Palm Beach Central, William T. Dwyer and West Boca high schools.
