FEB. 17 — A Wellington man died Monday morning after a custom plane he was flying crashed near the Aero Club community. According to a PBSO report, at approximately 11:55 a.m., 58-year-old Leonard W. McGarity Jr. was flying his custom airplane from his home in the Aero Club when something went wrong. According to the report, the plane crashed into a golf course pond located near the intersection of Greenbriar Blvd. and Aero Club Road. McGarity died on impact. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
