The community has banded together to support nine-year-old Melanie Ponce De Leon of The Acreage, the third-grade student at Golden Grove Elementary School who was struck by a car on Tuesday, March 4 while walking home from her bus stop.
Fundraisers were held Tuesday and Thursday at Butterfields Southern Café in Royal Palm Beach, and other events are planned. The Golden Grove PTO has also started a fundraising web site for the family, which can be found at www.gofundme.com/7c7hdo. Supporters ask that the link be shared to raise awareness.
Aside from Golden Grove, several other local schools are rallying to help the family.
