With the help of a community development block grant in the amount of $313,710, Wellington has upgraded 189 sidewalk curb ramps and approaches to make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and make the village safer for all residents.
The sidewalk upgrades include yellow bumps at the end of some crosswalks. These pads will aid people with visual disabilities. The truncated domes (bumps) will help them in determining boundaries between the sidewalk and street.
How sidewalks meet the street is also being changed. Residents using wheelchairs or walking aids will see an improvement in the steepness. This will make it safer for them to move between the sidewalk and the street.
