Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist visited Wellington on Friday, Aug. 8 to pick up the endorsement of the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA).
At a ceremony held at the original Wellington Mall, FLARA President Tony Fransetta announced the group’s endorsement of Crist’s bid to return to the governor’s mansion, this time as a Democrat. He faces former State Sen. Nan Rich in an Aug. 26 primary.
Fransetta said the group’s endorsement was based on a number of factors, including Crist’s strong support for Florida’s seniors and his promise to expand Medicaid, if elected. While governor, Fransetta noted that Crist worked to secure funding for seniors’ nutrition programs in Florida and also gave seniors and disabled individuals in nursing homes more options for their long-term care needs.
