The Golden Grove Elementary School student council held its annual canned food drive from Nov. 2 through Nov. 20 to help local needy families through the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
When it comes to helping others, Golden Groves students and their families are always generous. One of the school’s families, Tony Castano, owner of Act Management Inc., donated a truckload of food for the food drive. Golden Grove was able to donate 2,142 food items to the PBSO as a result of this generosity. “Encouraging students to think of others is a valuable lesson,” Assistant Principal Philip Preddy said.
It’s important for students to be able to see that they can help people outside their immediate family and school community. “Our students have great hearts,” said Stephanie Field, third-grade teacher and student council sponsor. “We told them that there are families without enough to eat, and they answered the challenge.”
