Acreage Cub Scout Troop Collects Food For Needy Families Before Thanksgiving

On Saturday Nov. 11, Cub Scout Pack 124 in The Acreage took to the streets for the annual “Scouting for Food” drive, collecting bags filled with donated, non-perishable food items.

The annual event takes place across the entire country every fall approaching Thanksgiving, as scouts collect donated food for food banks and needy families.

Pack 124 was able to collect 417 pounds of food.

The Boys Scouts are looking to collect more than 2 million food items this year. More than 30,000 scouts, parents and other volunteers are taking part in the 31-year-old food drive. More than 50 million food items have been collected over the history of the program.

For many of the scouts in Pack 124, participating was an opportunity to lend a hand to those in need by “doing a good turn.” Many were motivated to walk the neighborhoods or collect food at offices and soccer fields.
