The second season of the Audubon Everglades Photography Club begins on Monday, Sept. 25th at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at St. Michael Lutheran Church (1925 Birkdale Drive, Wellington).
The program will feature “15 Ways to Improve Your Photography Without Buying Any Gear,” led by award-winning photographer Art Silverman.
Four of the nine programs this season will feature guest presenters to teach members how to become better photographers. The other five programs will be dedicated to critiques by accomplished photographers during friendly and supportive competitions.
The first of three Audubon Everglades Photo Club field adventures will be at Mounts Botanical Garden (531 N Military Trail, West Palm Beach) on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. Mounts has a suggested $5 donation.
On Monday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., there will be a workshop for new and returning members on “How to Submit Images into a Competition,” which will be a pre-competition review on how to prepare, resize and upload images. Be sure to bring a laptop and images that you plan on submitting for the October competition.
One of the goals of the club is to help members support the work of environmental agencies and to get their work published by providing images of birds, butterflies, insects, plants, etc. taken by photography club members to environmental organizations for their use in promoting wildlife and habitat awareness.
Club founder Dr. Pete Lekos, a widely published and award-winning photographer, hopes the club will continue to “increase our knowledge of photography, inspire one another in our photographic activities, and, especially, to make new friends.”
Nature photographers of all skill levels are welcome. Members will be able to share their work, meet and form friendships with other photo enthusiasts, have their work critiqued by experts and grow as photographers in the digital age.
Regular meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Wellington.
While Photography Club membership is encouraged, it is not a requirement for attending. Guests can attend up to two club meetings without membership. Call Lekos at (201) 600-6463 for more information.
