High school wrestling added a new division for state competition, and on Saturday, Jan. 6, the inaugural FHSAA team title quest began at Royal Palm Beach High School.
Wellington High School took the district championship over host Royal Palm Beach High School. All four area high schools competed in the event. Royal Palm Beach earned the district runner-up, while Seminole Ridge took third place, and the Broncos came in fourth.
The Wolverines and Wildcats both move on to regional competition in hopes to make a run for the team state title. Area coaches seem to be in favor of the new concept. Wellington coach Travis Gray noted that it gives the entire team something to strive for. The traditional individual district competition will occur later on in the season.

The Wolverines bested the Broncos in round two 72-9, and the Wildcats defeated Seminole Ridge 55-14. The Hawks handled Palm Beach Central in round three to take third 53-12, and Wellington defeated Royal Palm Beach 60-18 for the title.
