100PalmBeach Debuts With Donation Program

Barbara Abernathy of the Pediatric Oncology Support Team addresses the group.

With a goal of bringing together 100 people, each of whom will have pledged to contribute $100 to a local charity quarterly, three entrepreneurs in Palm Beach County have formed 100PalmBeach. Every penny of expense involved in the formation of the group was contributed by one of the three founding companies: Forming Brands, David R. Randell Photographics and Association Management & Communications.

In space provided by Palm Beach Atlantic University, the 100 people who comprise 100PalmBeach gathered to hear presentations by representatives of three local charities, then vote on which of the three should receive that evening’s funding. Participants agree to contribute their $100, even if they are not able to be in attendance at the presentations. More than a dozen charities have registered for the opportunity to be one of the three presenters. The selection process at the quarterly gathering is public and transparent.

The group is still in the process of building to the goal of 100 participants. As of the first meeting in March, the group founders were more than halfway to that goal. The second meeting of the group will be Monday, May 7. People interested in joining the grassroots effort are invited to register online at www.100palmbeach.org.

The recipient of the group’s funds at the first gathering of 100PalmBeach was the Pediatric Oncology Support Team (POST). POST helps local children and their families fight cancer by giving them hope, help and healing with compassion.
