Dr. Sunitha Sirivolu and the staff and patients of Family Dentist of Palm Beach have donned masks to be the super heroes to get the word out to the community about the importance of oral health.
It all comes down to plaque, the sticky film that coats teeth. If not properly cleaned on a regular basis, can harden and become very difficult to remove. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and gum disease. To prevent this, one needs to brush and floss twice a day, and have regular dental checkups where the hygienist and the dentist can check plaque buildup. It’s usually hard to clean plaque in between teeth and in the back-molar areas. Patients are given demonstrations on how to keep those areas clean.
The campaign “Pledge to Fight Back Against Plaque!” has helped spread the word within the community through the support of patients who shared their pictures on social media to their friends and family as part of a campaign to prevent tooth loss and stop gum disease in the Royal Palm Beach, Wellington, West Palm Beach and Lake Worth areas. Patients took pictures with the staff with super hero props and masks, and there was a raffle for an Oral-B electric toothbrush kit to the winner.
Five easy ways you can “fight the plaque” and achieve better oral health are: brush regularly and thoroughly, floss daily, use a mouth rinse, eat healthy by avoiding sugary foods and schedule regular check-ups with your dentist.
Coming soon, Family Dentist of Palm Beach will be wearing pink in October to bring awareness to the many people battling breast cancer. About one in eight women born today in the United States are at a risk of breast cancer at some point. The good news is that most people can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.
