Kervi Named Incoming Principal At Cardinal Newman High School

Cardinal Newman High School, in the Diocese of Palm Beach, is honored to announce that alumna Marikay “Katie” Gomez Kervi will serve as principal starting July 2020 to replace current Principal Dr. Christine Higgins, who left the school at the end of the school year.

Higgins will be missed. The diocese and the entire Cardinal Newman family are grateful for her outstanding leadership. For the past few months, an extensive search for the incoming principal was conducted, and several excellent candidates were interviewed. The search committee offered their recommendations, and additional interviews were conducted with three candidates.

Kervi was selected after the rigorous search, and the school is looking forward to welcoming back the 1999 graduate. Kervi earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of South Carolina in 2003, and in 2008 completed her master’s degree in education from Walden University. She returned to Cardinal Newman in 2005 and held several positions, such as speech and journalism teacher, registrar and dean of students. Since 2013, Kervi has served as principal of St. Juliana Catholic School.

“Through the interview process, it was evident that her leadership would strengthen our academic program; focus on our mission as a Catholic school; emphasize communication with faculty, families and students; and assist with marketing the school to our feeder schools, and the greater community,” Interim President Br. Thomas Zoppo said.
