Backstreets Closing To Become New Kickback Neighborhood Tavern

Backstreets is closing this month, but it will re-open in December with a new look and new name.

Longtime fans of the venerable Backstreets Bar & Grill in Wellington will need to bid farewell this month before the restaurant closes its doors on Saturday, Nov. 28.

The restaurant will then undergo a two-week transformation into the new Kickback Neighborhood Tavern, located in the Wellington Plaza at 12771 W. Forest Hill Blvd.

The owners plan to re-imagine the restaurant with new furniture and fixtures, a refreshed bar, shiplap walls and renovated restrooms. A 29-degree, 8-tap beer system will be installed to serve up pints alongside classic cocktails and new libations.

The food menu will feature elevated tavern fare with comfort classics and familiar favorites. Popular items like the tenderloin tips with béarnaise sauce, the Peter Lugar burger and the gorgonzola salad will continue to delight diners. A new layout will appeal to family and friends visiting for lunch or dinner.

Guests will be able to enjoy live music with a stage area featuring vintage musical instruments and old school vinyl records. New acts will fill the schedule alongside longtime performer Chance Encounter.

“We acquired the business with an idea and vision that we could learn about the customers and staff and put in the time and effort it would take to make it magical again. That time has come,” said Dan Hooker, managing member of Mad Hospitality Group.

Farewell celebrations for Backstreets will commence the week of Nov. 23 culminating on that Friday and Saturday. The goal is to re-open in mid-December with a new neighborhood feel, warm hospitality, live entertainment, and great food and drinks.
