The Polo Park Middle School robotics teams understand that hard work pays off. They practiced five days a week, two hours each day. Under David Grad’s leadership, with 16 new team members this year, all three Polo Park teams have earned a string of victories in recent competitions.
Team 36112 was recognized as Overall Champion in the Coral Springs Charter Qualifier with a top Robot Run score of 440.
Team 44893 was recognized as the Innovative Project Award Winner in the Glades Middle School Qualifier with a top Robot Run score of 380.
Team 16113 was recognized as Overall Champion in the South Florida Fair Qualifier, with a top Robot Run score of 360.
As a result, all three teams have qualified to compete in the regional tournament on Feb. 26 at Palm Beach Gardens High School.
Also, First Lego League requires all teams to come up with a project solution to solve the following problem: “Everyone depends on the transportation of goods to meet their daily needs. As more demands are placed on transportation systems, we will continue to face challenges unless we find new ways, or improve existing ways, to transport products from place to place. How can you improve the transportation of products?”
Brainstorming together, using the engineering design process, Polo Park’s teams developed the following solutions: Team 36112 came up with a solution to keep the inside of delivery boxes dry; Team 16113 came up with a solution to calm pets during an airplane flight; and Team 44893 came up with a solution to keep food delivery items safe from spilling before they get to the customer.
The school wishes the Cyberstallions luck as they prepare for their regional competition.
