Damon Barrett has been named as the new chief operating officer for HCA Florida JFK Hospital, effective March 1.
Barrett has served as the COO for HCA Florida Palms West Hospital for the past two years, where he has been instrumental in reshaping the hospital’s ER and OR, leading a state-of-the-art emergency room expansion, the opening of an expanded Level III NICU, the facility’s Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence and spearheading the addition of clinical access points. Barrett has also overseen the development of the hospital’s upcoming surgical services expansion and served as the facility’s ethics and compliance officer.
Prior to Palms West, Barrett served as the vice president of operations at Aventura, where he led the construction of its $60-million, 60-bed patient tower. He also served as the facility’s cancer program administrator, chief staffing officer and was responsible for multiple ancillary service lines.
Damon joined HCA Healthcare in 2014 at Mercy Hospital as the director of rehabilitation services. He began his healthcare career as a physical therapist, providing a keen understanding for the delivery of high-quality patient care to the forefront of his accomplishments.
Originally from Australia, Barrett holds a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, a master’s degree in business administration from Chadron State College, a doctorate in physical therapy from Northern Arizona University and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He resides in Palm Beach County with his wife Megan and two children, Binley and Myles.
