The Lakeside Market vendors and food trucks will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. The Chinese New Year activities will run from 6 to 9 p.m., with the lion dance and martial arts demonstrations at 7:30 p.m. Live country rock music by Rough Shot starts at 6:30 p.m.
In Chinese culture, a lion dance is typically performed during Chinese New Year celebrations to ward off evil and bring prosperity and food fortune for the new year.
The dances are performed by two “dancers” garbed in a traditional lion costume, moving to the rousing sounds of drums, gongs and symbols. One performer is positioned as the head and front limbs of the lion, while the other makes up the back and rear limbs.
