Palm Beach County Breaks Ground For Hawk’s Edge

The groundbreaking ceremony for Hawk’s Edge was held May 28.

Representatives from Palm Beach County, the City of West Palm Beach, Payne Chapel AME Church and development partners gathered on Wednesday, May 28 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Hawk’s Edge, a supportive housing development.

Hawk’s Edge was made possible through a collaborative effort between Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, Payne Chapel and FLITE Center. It includes the rehabilitation of eight apartment units that will be used to provide transitional housing for 16 young adults (ages 18 to 25), with a special focus on youth aging out of foster care and survivors of human trafficking.

FLITE Center will offer on-site supportive services, leveraging the proximity of its drop-in center located directly across the street. This setup ensures that youth residents have immediate access to vital resources, including case management, education, employment support and mental health services.

Palm Beach County sees 75 to 90 foster youth aging out of care each year, and Hawk’s Edge stands as a model for how local governments, nonprofits and the faith community can work together to meet the growing demand for supportive housing.

County officials thank all those who attended and made this possible, including Commissioner Bobby Powell Jr. (District 7), Vice Mayor Sara Baxter (District 6), Assistant County Administrator Tammy Fields, and officials from Palm Beach County Housing & Economic Development, the City of West Palm Beach and FLITE Center.
