The Village of Wellington encourages public school seventh graders to participate in the “If I Were Elected Mayor…” essay contest. The statewide contest is sponsored by the Florida League of Mayors and the Florida League of Cities. The essay contest provides students the opportunity to reflect on the role of the key elected official in their own city.
All seventh-grade students in public schools are encouraged to participate. Entries must be postmarked by Jan. 16. Essays will be judged by a committee comprised of members from of the Florida League of Mayors Board of Directors. Three statewide winners will be selected. Winners will receive a joint resolution from the Florida League of Mayors and the Florida League of Cities to be presented by their mayor at a public meeting.
