The Wellington High School wrestling team captured the championship trophy Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Okeechobee Big Lake Classic wrestling tournament.
The team finished 4-0 in the dual portion of the tournament, and the championship was determined in a final individual round in which the top four wrestlers at each weight competed for team points.
The team scores were as follows: WHS, 46 and Okeechobee, 34; WHS, 39 and Haines City, 36; WHS, 55 and Sarasota Military Academy, 23; and WHS, 42 and Avon Park, 30. Individually, the results were as follows: 106 pounds, Andrew Mitchell (5-0), first place; 113 pounds, Colton Macfarlane (4-1), second place; 126 pounds, Nik Bonadies (5-0), first place; 132 pounds, Marcus Morin (3-2), fourth place; 138 pounds, Brandon Paz (4-1), second place; 160 pounds, Josue Arce (3-2), fourth place; and 182 pounds, Devin Gillotte (4-1), second place.
