Wellington-based LED lighting solutions provider LED Source opened its new corporate headquarters at 3281 Fairlane Farms Road on Dec. 13, commemorating the event with a grand opening celebration and open house co-hosted by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. More than 200 people attended the event, including Wellington Mayor Bob Margolis, who was the guest of honor.
The 13,000-square-foot commercial building is the first of its kind to use all-LED lighting throughout the structure. According to Dean Ernst, director of marketing for LED Source, the new lights reduce total energy usage by 40,488 kWh, saving the company more than $7,933 in annual energy, maintenance and air conditioning costs. The new lights cut the building’s energy consumption by a whopping 69 percent, with more than triple the lifespan of traditional fluorescent bulbs. Ernst said the return on investment, or time it will take to make up the cost of installing the new fixtures, is expected to be just over three years.
“LED technology is the future of commercial lighting because it is effective, efficient and environmentally friendly,” said Marcel Fairbairn, president and CEO of LED Source. “We hope our building will influence other local business owners and property managers to make the switch.”
Fairbairn added that LED technology has numerous benefits over traditional incandescent, halogen and fluorescent light sources that make it a viable alternative for companies looking to save money and reduce their environmental footprint.
“In today’s economy, where every dollar counts, switching to LED means extra money for other business expenses,” Fairbairn said. “LED lighting offers greater design flexibility, lower costs, longer life spans and no hazardous materials compared to fluorescents.”
The new LED Source headquarters primarily utilizes Cree CR24 and CR22 LED troffers in addition to Lighting Science LED lamps, as well as Philips ExceLine BayLyter fixtures in the warehouse.
Founded in 2005, LED Source is North America’s first and only franchiser of LED lighting. The company supplies LED products to commercial, entertainment and residential spaces including major buildings, office spaces, restaurants, schools and theaters. Recently, the company retrofitted and redesigned the iconic external lights on the Miami Tower in Miami.
LED Source launched its franchising program in 2009, and currently has 13 active franchisees with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada. Starting in 2013, LED Source plans to develop new territories in states along the Eastern Seaboard and expects to have a network of 150 franchise offices within the next three years.
