Local a capella chorus the Women of Note will head to regional competition April 19 in Daytona Beach. In preparation for the competition performance, the chorus will hold an open dress rehearsal Monday, April 8 at 8 p.m. at Palm Beach Central High School in Wellington.
The general public is welcome to a free preview of the competition package. In addition, the free mini performance will feature competing quartets Impetuous and Sunsation, as well as an opportunity to participate in the chorus’s annual raffle with prizes up to $500.
The Women of Note will welcome new members to the competition stage this April. Lina Lacy of Lake Worth has always loved to sing but had never sung with a barbershop chorus. She found Women of Note through a friend, and after many invites to come to a membership meeting, she finally decided to check it out. Lacy said she is glad that she did; now she is having a blast and learning much about music, singing, movement and herself. Lacy said she is excited and bit nervous about competition this April, but she’s ready to dive right in.
Sharon Weinstein of West Palm Beach first heard the Women of Note perform last October, under the direction of Mitch Greenberg at the Palm Beach State College Eissey Campus Theatre, and she was hooked. Weinstein likes that the chorus promotes music education, enjoys competition and brings joy to the audiences. She said she is excited to be a part of the group.
The group is looking forward to sharing the competition stage with all of its new members, including Sheila Krichman of Delray Beach, Joni Meyers of Boynton Beach, Jan Smith of Wellington and Margaret Klabik of Lake Worth.
