Julia Adams, Wellington resident and freshman at Suncoast High School, recently competed in the 2013 Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Hunt Seat National Finals and placed fourth in the nation in her division.
The event was held April 18 at the coliseum at the New York State Fairgrounds in New York. More than 800 high school participants competed at local, regional and zone shows for a chance to ride at a national level.
The mission of the nonprofit Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) is to introduce students in private and public middle and secondary schools to equestrian sports and to promote and improve the quality of equestrian competition and instruction regardless of their financial status.
Through the IEA, student riders have the opportunity to earn scholarships toward their college education through awards in competition and through sportsmanship activities. Qualified riders are frequently sought out by many prestigious universities such as the University of Florida and Brown University to ride for their respective equestrian teams.
Throughout the season, Adams consistently placed high in several local, regional shows and received a third place finish at this years’ zones competition in Tennessee.
She also trains four to five days a week after school at Dala Horse Farm and as an IEA team member at Wallstreet Farm in Wellington.
