Throughout the year, New Horizons Elementary School students were encouraged to participate in the Reading Counts program by reading books and taking computer quizzes.
Each month the top readers from each grade received gold medals.
Top readers for the year celebrated their hard work with an ice cream party, a trophy from NHES Reading Leadership Committee and a gift card from the New Horizons PTA.
Honorees read: kindergarten – 10,000 words; first grade – 80,000 words; second grade – 500,000 words; and third, fourth and fifth grade – one million words.
