FAU Artists Mentor Boys & Girls Club Teens

The Museum Education Program at Florida Atlantic University’s University Galleries has launched an arts-integrated mentoring project titled “ReFOCUS,” in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, the Belle Glade Teen Center and Resource Depot of Riviera Beach.

Select FAU visual-art students will work with teenagers from the Belle Glade Teen Center, introducing the high school students to many forms of art and artists whose work is integrally involved with or responding to environmental history and/or contemporary environmental issues. The program will run weekly from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Tuesday, Nov. 19.

“FAU is excited to collaborate with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Resource Depot in a program in which teens and mentors will explore how they can conserve and create art together,” said Rod Faulds, director of FAU’s University Galleries. “We are looking forward to a very successful partnership.”

The goals of “ReFOCUS” are to develop an open dialogue between participants through mentoring, explore the use of recycled materials, empower FAU art students and make connections between art and the environment.
