The Rotary Club of Wellington has announced the winners of its United Nations Rotary Peace Ceremony Contest held in Wellington schools. The club received 256 posters, 70 poems, 35 essays and 20 photographs, which was record participation.
The overall winner of the Peace Poster contest for fourth graders was Equestrian Trails Elementary School student Leah Silverman, who won $75.
Winners by school were: Jacob Fink of Wellington Elementary School, Kayla Brusie of Binks Forest Elementary School, Hailey Feinberg of Elbridge Gale Elementary School, Victoria Watson of New Horizons Elementary School and Adrianna Garrido of Panther Run Elementary School. Individual student winners will be awarded $50.
The poetry competition was run in middle schools, including Polo Park and Wellington Landings. The winner from Polo Park is Warren Lee, while the winner from Wellington Landings is LeeAnn Hewitt. Each will receive $75.
The photography competition included students from Wellington and Palm Beach Central high schools. The overall winner is Julianne Schiliro of Wellington High School. She will receive $150.
The essay competition was held in WHS and PBCHS. The winner from Palm Beach Central is Ishmam Ahmed, while the winner from Wellington High School is Jake Sukienik. Both students will be awarded $100.
All students will receive their awards at a Peace Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Wellington Rotary Peace Park on Royal Fern Drive near the Wellington branch library.
