Acreage resident Sierra Lyn Rush is one of 13 contestants to compete in the upcoming Miss Rodeo Florida Pageant. The annual pageant will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28 in Okeechobee.
Miss Rodeo Florida Pageant is open to young ladies from Florida who wish to promote the sport of rodeo. Queens attend rodeos, parades, community events and speak to schools educating others about the sport of rodeo.
Winners are chosen from four age groups: Miss Rodeo Florida, ages 19-25; Miss Teen Rodeo Florida, ages 15-18; Miss Rodeo Florida Princess, ages 11-14; and Miss Rodeo Florida Sweetheart, ages 7-10.
All contestants compete in the areas of speech, modeling, personal interview and impromptu questions. Miss Rodeo and Miss Teen Rodeo Florida contestants also compete in horsemanship and rodeo knowledge.
Rush will compete for the title of Miss Rodeo Florida Princess. The first portion of the competition begins on Friday morning with the horsemanship portion. The contestants will execute a set pattern, a freestyle pattern, a flag carry and a queens run. Following the riding portion, the contestants will conduct a horsemanship interview.
The horsemanship portion of the pageant will be held at the Agri-Civic Center in Okeechobee. At 6:30 p.m., they will present their state speech, answer questions and model at the Stars and Stripes Dinner and Fashion Show at the Okeechobee KOA Resort’s CC building. The pageant concludes Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon at the Okeechobee KOA Resort.
